Setting off from the charming Highland village of Braemar, the route gently follows the historic Old Military Road—originally constructed during the Jacobite era and later improved in the Victorian period. Along the way, you’ll pass sites closely linked to the region’s Jacobite heritage, such as the ancient Invercauld Bridge and the nearby Braemar Castle, both of which played significant roles during the uprisings and into the 19th century. Route Description The ride is designed with newcomers in mind, featuring manageable gradients and wide tracks. As you meander along the route, you’ll find interpretive signs and viewpoints highlighting Braemar’s fascinating role in both the Jacobite rebellions and the Victorian love affair with the Highlands. Climbs can be either biked or walked as preferred, with flexibility for riders to take breaks and choose their preferred method of ascent.
